i'm asian and when i come across someone using "oriental" to describe us, it just tells me this person is quite the opposite - (maybe unwittingly) ignorant and has not been exposed to much of the real world.
it's like you're arguing with a black person that it's okay to call black people "negroes" because it technically means black, and because they used it back in the 18th century.

oriental is supposed to refer to inanimate objects like art and furniture, and asian is the term for people I thought. (I'm not 11:49)
